Role Summary
We are seeking a Piping Estimator to join our team in Ottawa! The Piping Estimator supports the pursuit and successful delivery of mechanical piping projects by preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates. Working closely with internal teams, clients, and suppliers, the Estimator develops pricing, scope breakdowns, and documentation that set projects up for success from bid through execution.

- Strengthen internal, supplier, and client relationships through collaboration and technical expertise
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review proposal specifications and perform quantity takeâoffs for labour, equipment, and materials
- Prepare accurate estimates and proposals for mechanical plumbing and piping construction projects
- Break projects into logical scopes with clear labour and cost breakdowns
- Identify valueâengineering and costâsaving opportunities to meet client needs
- Meet with clients to understand requirements and clarify scope
- Engage with Modern Niagara suppliers to build relationships and negotiate pricing
- Provide technical and estimating support to Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Business Development teams
- Prepare estimating documentation and support project turnover meetings for awarded work
- Liaise with Project Managers to ensure scope, assumptions, and pricing are clearly understood
Must haves:
- 1+ years of experience within the construction industry
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Solid understanding of construction methods and materials
- Ability to produce accurate estimates under tight deadlines
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong focus on Excel
Nice to haves:
- Experience estimating as both a subcontractor and prime contractor
- Experience with commercial and institutional construction projects
- Exposure to project turnover and coordination with delivery teams
- Strong communication skills and comfortable working in a team environment
- Experience with estimating and construction software (e.g., Trimble, AutoBid, Bluebeam, Procore)
- Experience preparing cost estimates and proposals for mechanical, plumbing, and/or piping construction projects
- Experience estimating as both a subcontractor and prime contractor
- Eligibility to obtain Government of Canada security clearance. This requirement is tied to projectâspecific access
This is a new position. Expected annual compensation; $60,000 - $90,000.
